5 Reasons You Are Not Losing Weight

Here are some reasons why you might not be losing enough weight. You might be losing weight but not as much as you would expect. If that is the case then read on:

  1. Are you depressed?. Depression can cause an increase in appetite and can lead to massive gains, forget about just not losing weight. When you are in depression, you don’t necessarily eat because of your emotions, you eat to make yourself comfortable and this can be dangerous. The more you eat, the more depressed you feel because you think you will gain weight because of all the eating you have just done. In this case, the first thing you should do, is to forget about dieting or losing weight and consult a doctor for your unstable emotions and then worry about your weight, otherwise you will never get out of this binging vicious cycle.
  2. People have conflicting views on this one. Some say that you must set realistic goals, like losing 10 pounds in 2 months. Others say that you should set unrealistic goals because that will help you get ahead a lot further, like losing 60 pounds in 4 months. My experience says that it is best that you set yourself short term goals. Goals like, lose 2 pounds this week. Nothing more, otherwise you might be put off by the lack of progress and that alone can drive you nuts.
  3. Try to stay away from chocolate. Many people believe that it is ok to have chocolate to have chocolate everyday if you take it in small amounts and the variety is low calorie dark color one instead of the high calorie milk one. That may be true but the thing is that no matter what variety of chocolate, it still has fats and sugar in it. Best option is to avoid it because you cannot have it in small amounts (in chocolate world, small amount is really small, people cannot possibly understand how small) and you might gain weight.
  4. Drinking Water might be a bit confusing for you. Drinking lots of water is obviously good for you as it freshens you up, gives you energy by making the blood flow easily and can release the toxins inside your body. But then again, if you drink too much water you would feel bloated and that might put you off. Plus, if you drink water when you are hungry then that also could hamper your motivation. The trick is to find the balance. Drink water while going to bed and waking up. Drink water with meals and the such. Other then that, pack on the veggies and high fiber foods like pasta and brown rice.
  5. Don’t go too easy on yourself. I do agree that one should never make drastic changes suddenly in ones lifestyle but if you have managed to get started on a diet program or an exercising regime then stick to it. Be dedicated and be strict. There is no point in doing 10 push ups and then rewarding yourself with a cream cake. You have to increase the amount of exercise, decrease the amount of food while increasing the percentage of minerals, vitamins and fiber in your diet.

How To Control Your Cravings

So without any fillers, here are 4 ways you can control your cravings and thus finally start to lose some good old weight.

  1. First step to control your cravings, is to write them down. Write down the stuff you crave and then think about them for moment. Think about which ones are bad for your health and which have gone out of control.
  2. You need to identify the situations which forces you to binge. In other words, know when you crave for stuff. When you know those moments then you have to take actions. Go for a walk, take a shower, just do anything that would take your mind off eating some junk food. Call a good friend. That always works
  3. You need to deal with your craving triggers yourself. You have to manage them yourself. So the next time you get cravings, just pick a gum and chew it, that releases stress and has been known to stimulate certain parts of the brain. Try to stay away from stress (through exercise may be) if you know that you eat a lot when you are stressed.
  4. You need to take your craving head on and try to kick it out. First step in order to achieve this is always by telling someone about your cravings. That has an instant effect of, you having more control. Don’t know the exact science behind this, but trust me, this works.

6 Weight Loss Mistakes: Mistake 3

So now what? You probably have heard about two ways you can lose weight. That is by eating less and exercising more. Both are required. Well, science has advanced a lot and as you probably know, there is now a third way to lose weight, at least that is what we are told on TV.

That third way is through pills. Weight loss pills. Some researches call them the ultimate weight loss solution. Yes, they have invented a pill that lets you eat all you want and still not gain weight. Obviously it has its side effects and believe me, it has got a lot of side effects and some of them are very serious.

Anyway, using drugs other than prescribed weight loss pills is a mistake many people who are trying to lose weight make. This make can be very costly and can have devastating consequences.

Using drugs like cocaine, speed or any other drug for weight loss have far too many negative consequences which overshadow any amount of health benefit you may get from eating these pills.

Some of the bad effects you might have by taking these illegal drugs are headaches, lung problems, heart problems, kidney problems, anxiety, stress, physical and psychological problems as in addiction. You could also have social and financial problems.

Using illegal drugs is obviously prohibited but using legal drugs for purposes other than the stated ones is also very dangerous. You just cannot use any drug to satisfy yourself and hence lose weight.

6 Mistakes For Weight Loss: Mistake 2

Mistake 2 in losing weight (which I am not guilty of by the way) is too much exercising. This may come as a good news to most dieters and even people who can control their eating, hate to exercise. Well, if I am being positive about it, then lets put it this way, most people on earth do not like to exercise everyday.

Before you start to brag about you being right all those years when you told people that exercising is no good, read the first line again. Obsessive exercise is bad. What is obsessive exercise? You will be amazed at the answer.

It is recommended that you have to exercise (as in running or jogging) for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. That is for sure a lot of exercise of most of us. But that is the minimum. Obsessive exercise would come at a point where you start exercising for hour and a half everyday.

Why is it bad you may legitimately ask? Doesn’t exercise burn calories and the more you burn calories, the more weight you lose. That is right and there is no need for you to change that concept. But we must always do things in balance.

Balance is a beautiful thing. Too much exercise can control your life in unwanted ways. Firstly, too much exercise everyday can take a toll on the body in terms of wear and tear of the muscles and the joints.

Secondly, it can increase risk for injury. It can lead to dehydration and hence electrolyte imbalance. It can also give you psychological problems as forcing yourself to do too much exercise can make it a horrible experience.

There are however options for you. Either you can do cardiovascular exercise 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. Or you can do intense cardiovascular exercise  of 20 minutes 3 days a  week . The weight training would consist of 8 to 10 exercises with 8 to 12 repetitions done two times a week.

Despite what doctors say, people think that they know better and blindly follow the “More Is Better” rule. But that rule is not correct as far as your body goes. More exercise can harm your body. More rest can harm your body too. More food can definitely harm your body.

So you have to be really careful what you do with your body. Otherwise you might end up in a situation you would not like to hear about right now. Do engage in regular activity to get many health benefits but do not overdo it.

Exercise can act as a stress reliever which is a big deal when you are working in a corporate society, you do not want to reverse that effect of exercise which you can easily do when you over do exercise.

Detox Plans Are Not Healthy

Yesterday I was talking with some of my friends at work and somehow we began talking about losing weight. This is particularly uncommon as we were working on a power plant rather than a health clinic.

The talk started about how one can lose weight. The obvious answer which most of my friends (one of which is Shahneel) gave was to give up food. Even the friend who wanted to lose weight had this in mind. Just go starving oneself for a week or two and boom, all extra weight is gone.

While if you manage to do such a feat then hats of to you. But all the weight you will lose, will simply come back once you will start to eat and will come back as fat mostly.

The prime motivation behind choosing starvation instead of correct diet is because people think that along with losing weight they will detoxify their body. Which will thus increase their energy levels and some also think that it helps the skin a lot.

Cleansing is necessary in some cases such as when one wants to examine your colon but cleansing (colonscopy) for the sake of losing weight is not healthy and cleansing your body of all the toxins is not necessary. Cleansing will result in quick weight loss but that weight will be mostly water weight and stool weight which does not increase your strength at all.

And most of all, cleansing can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance in our bodies.

There are many alternatives to detoxifying such as watching what you eat all the time. You should drink lot of water and high fiber food if you want to cleanse yourself in a natural way.

Our bodies have this quality of cleansing itself. It knows when to detoxify and cleanse toxins from the system so there is no need to do something out of the ordinary. In fact, detoxification can mess up the body’s finely tuned system.

So in order to cleanse your body and lose some weight too, don’t go for detoxification instead eat healthy and take in lots of fluids.

6 Mistakes For Weight Loss: Mistake 1

FOOOD

The biggest mistake people make is, they try to starve themselves. They deprive themselves and they eat very low calorie diets. That may help you lose weight and quite fast too (I will be honest with you) but you will gain it back the day you stop that restricted diet.

Secondly, the extra low calorie diet will encourage your body into producing more fat. Most people who slash too many calories end up weighing more after they have lost their weight initially.

Rapid weight loss includes some loss in muscle mass, some loss of water and some fats. This decreases the metabolic rate of the body and hence your body reaches a new state in which it requires less calories to stay alive.

The correct weight loss solution is to never cut calories less than 1200 on your own. If you are under supervision then there is no problem. But on your own, keep your calorie level around 1200. That will ensure that you are getting enough nutrients for repairs, for energy and general health of your body.

Always remember that if you lose weight too quickly, you will gain it back with more fat and less muscle. Hence you will have lower metabolic rate and calorie needs. So it will be difficult for you to start losing weight again.

Eat but eat healthy and in good quantity.

5 Creative Ways To Get Excited About Exercising

Do these bore you? You are not alone

Here are the five ways I tell people to get a new perspective on exercise. It does not have to be linear, lonely and boring.

  1. Always try to attend group classes. Most gyms offer their members free or very cheap group classes. There you can do different kind of exercises with a group of people. Exercises include a huge variety from lifting weight, yoga to some good cardiovascular exercises. Exercising as a part of a group is easier as you have people around you to look up to. You are also likely to make friends in your new class and most of the times, you will be hurrying for the gym just to catch up on your new buddies. It is a great way to lose weight and have fun during the process.
  2. Personal training sessions are not only for Celebrities. You too can take full advantage of this new practice among people who like to stay fit with the least amount of effort.  Though it has to be said that personal training sessions are more expensive when compared to just joining a gym or a group. But, when you pay high, you will always show up, no matter how bad your mood is or no matter how much you don’t feel like exercising.
  3. Try dancing for a change. Sign up for some dance classes and further introduce yourself to new ways of losing weight and getting some physical activity. Your aim in these classes is to burn as much calories as you can and get fitter and if you can learn a few moves then that counts as a bonus. Salsa is very common among people but there are other choices too like tango and hip hop. And yeah, do not worry about not learning how to dance, that is not your aim here. Enjoy.
  4. Rock Climbing anyone?. Another very creative way to lose weight and keep it off. A lot of gyms now a days have rock climbing classes and trainers who can teach you how to do this activity in a appropriate way. It is a lot of fun and if you are amongst 90 percent people of the world then this activity will be something completely new for you. It will fascinate you.
  5. Ice Skating will not kill you. It does not even come close to that. It is a lot of fun and along with that, it is very easy to learn. Don’t worry about falling over, now a days tracks are designed by professionals and they ensure your safety to the fullest. Even if you fall, you will just slide down the ice. It is pretty safe and painless contrary to popular belief.

Most Fattening Foods

Is this what you crave in summers?

Most people think that by having salads (especially in summers) they will be able to lose weight without much problems and sure enough, salads are a great way to maintain and even lose weight. But there are things you need to know about how to lose weight. It is not just about eating salads.

Salads are mostly light, refreshing and a good way of fulfilling your requirements of lean protein. But you have to be careful about the toppings you choose. This light salad can go from being lean to highly fattening very quickly.

So what should you avoid?

High calorie dressings on these salads. Fried chicken stripes along with bacon and cheese are a big no no if you want to have a low calorie salad.

The best food items you can use for your salads are grilled chicken and slices of lean meat. Along with low fat cottage cheese and if you really want to add in some variety then eggs with tons of vegetables. Always make sure that the dressings you use are light in nature.

Snacks are probably the best way to lose excess amount of weight. Don’t get me wrong, a handful of snack will not do you any harm but munch on them regularly and in large portions then you can expect your weight to go up in relatively few days.

Snacks such as cheese and popcorn can give you from 160 to 600 calories. These include cheese puffs, cheese nachos and potato chips. They are high in calories and high in fats.

Try to snack on fruits and vegetables along with some low fat dairy. You can also have fat free popcorn as they are acceptable but do not go out and eat them all day.

Foods to Watch Out For In Summers

Bright sunshine

Its summer time and don’t we all want a treat. You can enjoy all you want but be careful about putting on weight just because you ate a lot for 2 weeks or so. So here are some foods you must try and stay away from if you do not want to undo all your weight loss efforts.

We all know how important it is to stay hydrated. Especially in the summers when our bodies loses a lot of water content. So in order to hydrate ourselves we drink water. Sometimes, especially in summer, a lot of people make use of sodas ans sweet teas.

Which taste awesome but pack on pounds as each pop contains about 150 calories so you must control the amount of beverages you entertain yourself with per day.

Smoothies, cocktails and milkshakes can go even higher than standard sodas so watch out people. You should always keep your liquids in check and take lighter versions of your thirst quenchers.

Another food item about which you should be vigilant is ice cream. In other words, frozen treats.

A cup of soft ice cream can have as much as 380 calories with 22 grams of fat. Add to that some chocolate cookie dough milkshake concoction and the calories rise up to 720. Which is a disaster if you ask me.

That does not necessarily mean that you should give up frozen treats. What you must do is to give up giant portions and high calorie versions. Look out for frozen deserts like fruit bars and fudge bars which come under 150 calories.

5 More Ways To Lose More Weight

Your plate should look something like this

Looking for creative ways to lose weight? Then have a look at these 5 tips which can help you lose weight without breaking too much sweat. In fact, let me rephrase that. These tips will help you lose weight without breaking SWEAT at all.

  1. Learn how to cook. If you know how to cook, you are more likely to cook healthier and much more nutritious meals than if someone else makes your food. If you do not know how to cook, you are more likely to go out and eat from restaurants which always make you fat.
  2. Use shower to your advantage. Whenever you are having food cravings, take a shower. That will take your mind off eating and will relax you. The aim is to do an activity that makes it hard for you to eat junk food. While taking a shower, it is very difficult to eat anything. So a good old shower might help you avoid automatically giving in to strong food cravings.
  3. Reward yourself with regularity. That will keep you motivated for longer. You have to make sure that these rewards do not involve food, otherwise you will just over eat every time you reward yourself. If you want to buy an expensive watch or a suit. Set yourself a goal, lets say, of losing 5 more pounds and then reward yourself with that particular watch or suit. That will make you more focused on your goal, that is to lose weight.
  4. Tell everyone that you will be thin within the next month or so. Set yourself a target and tell everyone. When you will tell everyone, then the pressure of saving your face in front of everybody will make you work harder and you are more likely to succeed. Keeping it to yourself is more likely to make you think that even if you fail, nobody will know about it and that sometimes can pave the way for you to overeat. Spread the word about your weight loss efforts to make yourself doubly  disciplined.
  5. Get enough sleep. Sleeping less than 6 to 8 hours is likely to make you crave more food. Sleeping regularly with good discipline allows your body to burn off the pounds your body wants to lose. Plus, the fact that sleeping in regular cycles makes you feel less hungry when compared to the opposite scenario where you are sleeping very less or have irregular sleep cycles.
